This rustically charming log cabin with one bedroom and a loft was built by homesteader, Mickey Wagner, for his trapping friend, a French-Canadian named Baptiste. This cozy cabin is surrounded by meadows with gorgeous views of Bad Rock Canyon.
Baptiste is located on the original homestead site, nestled among large cotton wood and birch, next to a meadow and in sight of beaver ponds. The main floor plan is open with kitchen, dining, and living room and a full bath. A bedroom with a queen bed and deck access is located on the main floor, which also includes a queen size sleeper sofa. The enclosed upper loft has a double futon and looks out over a large meadow and into the majestic canyon formed by towering Columbia and Teakettle mountains. The cabin interior, remodelled in 2018, has a fully equipped kitchen, linens, full laundry, BBQ, and front deck with picnic table and fire pit in a large, private yard. There is plenty of parking, great cell service and free WiFi.
Enjoy a great read about original homesteader, Mickey Wagner and his friend Baptiste, in John Fraley's 2018 book, "Rangers, Trappers, and Trailblazers, Early Adventures in Montana's Bob Marshall Wilderness and Glacier National Park. The cabin, Baptiste, a guest house Mickey constructed, is named for Baptiste Joyal. This enigmatic prospector and trapper may have been the first Euro-American in the South Fork.
